client, you have an upcoming appointment. In order to maximize the time we have, please take a few moments and complete the below questions. We look forward to our meeting! Thank you!
The purpose of this worksheet is to aid in the writing and development of each section
of a professional resume.
HEADING - Personal Information
The contact information that appears at the top of the resume. You may include an
alternate address to indicate where an employer may contact you if you currently
reside in more than one location. (note: if you are planning to relocate you may want
to use an address of a friend or relative in that location, if the position is only open to
local applicants.)

(Make sure your email address is current, professional, and appropriately named.)
Credentials
Move your credentials, especially the ones that match your target position, to the very top of your resume. This is typically the first place recruiters will look, so having them front and center ensure they won't get skipped.
{"type":"textarea","name":"__generic5","width":100,"value":"","size":"Normal","validation":"","validationMessage":"Please fill in this item.","height":80,"placeholder":""}
Social Media link
Did you know that 90 percent of employers search for candidates' social media profiles online before setting up an interview? Make it easy on them by providing links to your social accounts or professional websites near your other contact information. Include a custom link to your LinkedIn profile.
If you'd rather keep your online profiles hidden from recruiters, make sure to adjust your security settings or change your account name so they're harder to find.
{"type":"text","name":"__generic6","width":100,"value":"","size":"Normal","validation":"","validationMessage":"Please fill in this item.","placeholder":""}
Executive Summary - Core Competencies
Step one - Try to shoot for at least three attributes and no more than five. Your list may look similar to this one:
Good communicator
Able to balance budgets and slash workforce costs
Graduated lean training
Lead a team in Mexico last year
Crossed trained in medical sales and accounting
After deciding your five best qualities, compare them to the job description and special skills desired. Do they match? Do you have something to offer? If so, move forward with the career summary steps; if not, take another look at your abilities.
Step two -
The next step is to weave your top credentials into your summary for a resume. Include your achievements and abilities. Focus on your most recent work experience and quantify your achievements.
Here is an example using the above list:
Innovative, dedicated business and finance director with multiple years' experience working with multi-functional teams and global business units. Skilled leader credited for a collaborative communication process. Sigma Six lean specialist skilled at balancing budgets, improving efficiency, and decreasing workforce costs, without the need for job cuts. Saved organization $2.5 million through innovations.
{"type":"textarea","name":"__generic","width":100,"value":"","size":"Normal","validation":"","validationMessage":"Please fill in this item.","height":80,"placeholder":""}
Directly below the Executive Summary, we will include a list of your core competencies. To stand out immediately, make sure your core skills — also referred to as “core competencies” or “areas of expertise” — are listed in an easy-to-read format.
Moreover, make sure you're choosing skills that directly correlate with the position you're applying for. Take a look at the job description, if you have it, and customize your resume accordingly. If done right, this should complement your executive summary above.

Examples might include CPR/First Aid, Microsoft, Teaching, etc… This worksheet only has room for two certification/license listings. Your resume may have more. If you have more, gather the same information listed below for each to include in your resume.

EXPERIENCE – Work, Internships and/or Related
If you're surprised by this tip, you're not alone. It's a common myth that resumes should be restricted to one page! Just don't get too lengthy. Two pages is a great rule-of-thumb for resume length that will allow you the space to showcase your work history and, more importantly, your accomplishments (quantified, of course). If you have more, gather the same information listed below for each to include in your resume.
Only keep the most recent 15 years of experience. Bump your earlier and entry-level jobs to the second page and include only the most important details. Furthermore, make sure the positions you're including are relevant. If you're applying for an executive-level healthcare position, recruiters won't care that your first job out of college was scooping ice cream at the mall.

HONORS, Scholarships & AWARDS
It is advisable to include any professional awards on your resume to highlight the fact your work was recognized for its excellence in a certain field.
The accomplishments that you choose to add to your resume must be relevant to the job vacancy you’re applying to or relate in some way to the industry or specific company.
When it comes to listing awards on a resume you should remember to include the details of when and where it was awarded to you, such as the date and the school, college or enterprise.

SKILLS
In this section you will want to list skills that demonstrate proficiency in areas not
otherwise stated in your academics or experience sections. Focus on skills most
relevant to your desired position/career field. Skills might include:
Languages (note level of fluency)
Computer skills – list programs and software you are able to use
Other field specific areas, such as techniques and
instrumentation.

EDUCATION
List all colleges and universities from which you have earned or will earn a degree. Start with your most recent. For degrees that fall outside of the 15-year time-frame, go ahead and remove the dates associated with them. The reason for this? They simply don't matter.
This worksheet only has room for two education listings. Your resume may have more. If you have more, gather the same information listed below for each to include in your resume.

AFFILIATIONS
Campus, Community, Volunteer
Highlight activities that demonstrate involvement in organizations, leadership roles and
note length of membership. However, everything on your resume is fair game during an interview. Don't include extracurricular activities if all you can say about them is that you attended an event once or that you were a member. You may also want to remove any activities that may be considered controversial.

REFERENCES
NOTE:
References are not typically included on your resume. Create a separate
references page, listing at least 3 individuals who can attest to your work ethic,
academic performance, skills and abilities. Two professional references and one
personal reference. Ask these individuals to serve as references prior to including
on your reference page.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this worksheet. We will discuss each item during our session.
